University of Agriculture Faisalabad(UAF) was established in 1906. It was the first major institution of the agriculture higher education in the undivided Punjab of sub-continent. It was the first university built by the British Empire in 1906 with the foundation stone laying ceremony by Sir Louis Dane, the then Lieutenant and Governor of the Punjab. University of Agriculture Faisalabad is public sector university of Pakistan, chartered by Government of Punjab and recognized by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Main campus of the UAF is situated in center of the Faisalabad city. Now University of Agriculture Faisalabad has 3 sub-campuses in the different cities of Pakistan.
As a public university, UAF prepares the next generation of workers, managers and leaders through its academic programs in agricultural and allied sciences. It generates new knowledge through innovative research and transfers research-based information to the people to ensure a sustainable and abundant agriculture, livestock, forestry and fisheries within a healthy environment. The Flagship University of the Province of Punjab stands second amongst all public and private institutions of higher education in the Pakistan according to HEC Ranking 2012 and 98th and 139th in the world (20th and 25th in Asia) in agricultural sciences on the basis of current NTU and QS rankings, respectively. UAF translates the latest research into practical applications (goods and services) that ensure food security, improve people’s lives and drive the economy of Pakistan. UAF creates and disseminates knowledge and skills to thrive in the fast-changing, multicultural environment of the 21st century. Thus, UAF emerges as a leader of the change process towards a prosperous and resilient nation of Pakistan.
The Computer Science education in the University was started in 1975 in the form of short courses with an objective to develop computer know-how. Over the years the computational facilities were strengthened and updated to enable the University to initiate the M.Sc. Degree programs in computer Science during the year 1992 in the department of Mathematics and Statistics as part of its continuing computer education agenda. In the year 1996 an independent department of Computer Science was established to perform all the functions related to Computer Science and especially to promote and develop computer education in the country. The department has excellent computing facilities available for training, data analysis, programs development and research. These compare favorably with any university in Pakistan. The laboratories are rich in both software and hardware installations. We hope to strengthen our postgraduate programs, giving more emphasis on student’s projects and making them more meaningful for the software industry.
