Information Technology University(ITU) was established in 2012. ITU is located in Lahore. Information Technology University is a public sector university of Pakistan, chartered by Government of Punjab and recognized by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. ITU aspires to emulate the success of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) through focus on cross-disciplinary applied research, the cultivation of an entrepreneurial culture in teaching and research, the maintenance of a close collaboration with the Information and Communication Technology industry and the development of strong ties with government funding agencies. With a structure that combines the best features of both public and private sector universities, ITU aims to serve as a center for excellence in academia, research, entrepreneurship and innovation.
ITU was thus formed to enable Pakistani youth to develop such solutions, and also to cater to the acute shortage of trained manpower faced by Pakistan’s IT industry. Modeled along the lines of the world’s leading technology universities, ITU has a project-oriented and design-centered approach to education. The university aims to foster a new generation of IT engineers and entrepreneurs who will help transform the economic and technical landscape of Pakistan. ITU is a first of its kind institution in Pakistan; the university seeks to nurture an environment of high-tech research and entrepreneurship with its state-of-the art facilities, world class faculty, its in-house start-up incubator and well-established government and industry linkages. The university is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including a library and several labs.
The degree programs at ITU aim to impart a research-oriented and design-centered computer science and technical education to students, and thus produce innovators and IT specialists who can transform the IT landscape of Pakistan. The programs at ITU combine rigorous coursework with exciting research opportunities based on real-world problems and industrial collaborations, thus ensuring a broad-based education which can lead to numerous diverse career paths. Courses are designed and taught by ITU’s world class faculty and research is conducted in collaboration with ITU’s numerous research centers.
